Hey guys, welcome back to my blog. Today I’ll be sharing a small yet an interesting story. The story reminds us of an important “ingredient” that we need in our lives, which can take you to heights or help you or the world create something that does not exist in the world at the moment or simply solve a puzzle by piecing out the things that exist, in right places.
We’ll see how this magical wand has taken this world to a place where humanity would never have even thought of, right after the story.
Many years ago, a doctor once drove to a town, and quietly slipped into a drug store by the backdoor and started a petty argument with the clerk.
The doctor went out to his vehicle and brought an old fashioned kettle and a paddle [used for stirring ingredients in the kettle] to sell that to the clerk. The clerk came and inspected the kettle and put his hands deep inside the pocket and bought the kettle for $500 – his life’s entire savings!
The doctor handed over a small slip of paper in which was written the secret formula. The words on that small slip of paper were worth a King’s ransom, but not for the doctor! Those magic words were needed to start the kettle to boiling and neither the doctor nor the clerk knew that marvelous fortunes were about to flow from the kettle.
The doctor was glad to sell the kettle and that it would clear all his debts and would give him peace of mind. On the other hand, the clerk had staked his entire savings for an old kettle and a mere scrap of paper. He never dreamt that this investment would start a kettle overflowing with gold which would surpass Aladdin’s lamp.
What the clerk really purchased was an idea! The old kettle and the wooden paddle and the secret message on a slip of paper were incidental. The strange performance of that kettle began to take place after the new owner mixed with the secret instructions, an ingredient of which doctor knew nothing. What was the ingredient? Before we know this “ingredient” let’s look at vast fortunes of gold this idea has produced.
It has paid and still pays huge fortunes to people all over the world, who distribute the contents of kettle to millions of people.
The old kettle is now one of the world’s largest consumers of sugar, thus providing jobs to 1000’s of people engaged in growing sugarcane and in refining and marketing sugar.
The old kettle consumes, annually, millions of glass bottles, providing jobs to huge numbers of glass workers.
The old kettle gives employment to an army of clerks, copywriters and advertising experts throughout the nation. It has brought fame and fortune to scores of artists who have created magnificent pictures describing the product.
The influence of this idea now benefits every civilized country in the world, powering out a continuous stream of gold to all who touch it.
Whoever you are, wherever you may live, whatever occupation you may be engaged in, just remember in the future, every time you see the words “Coca-Cola” that its vast empire of wealth and influence grew out of a single idea, and that the mysterious ingredient that the drug clerk – Asa Candler – mixed with the secret formula was……….. imagination!
This particular story is picked up from the book - Think and Grow Rich.
Imagination is something that’s unique in everyone. It’s a place where all our desires, plans are given shape, form and also the action plan for it or just simply picking up the things around us and combining them in a new/creative way resulting in a new product.
This reminds me of one of the greatest inventions of humanity – the electric bulb, invented by Thomas Alva Edison. There was nothing such like that before him. He used his imaginative faculty of mind and tried to figure out ways of making one such kind, using the materials, that was perhaps available to others as well and he brought the light bulb to life that today lightens up the world. There are other examples, like the Wright brothers.
We should sometimes try going beyond our beliefs. Beliefs confine us and don’t let us explore our own unexplored self. Whenever we come to a conclusion of something, we should always try asking ourselves “Is this the only way?” or “Is this the only possible thing that can happen?”, “Is my belief installed by someone or is it through my experience?” We’ll end up extending the limit we have kept for ourselves thus broadening our imagination capability.
