Kunal Shah on productivity, life hacks and how India can become a successful nation

Kunal Shah is the founder of CRED. He is a fierce learner and has added layers of knowledge through his observation of the world and people. Here are few takeaways where he appeared on a podcast, on productivity and how India will become the superpower of the world.

  • Try to meet more smart people to become smarter. Good people who want to learn all the time will naturally surround themselves with other people who want to learn all the time and that group compounds much faster.

  • Our country will move forward where more people will take risks with their careers. More people taking risks with their careers will result in them creating careers for other people who don't want to take risks.

  • People who keep complaining about work-life balance either have a shitty life or a shitty job.

  • Watching content, again and again, will not improve your life, taking actions will.

  • Understand the value of time
Suppose assume your income is 1000rupees/hr., why do you waste time on getting a 200 rupees discount for a flight ticket.
When you are on an airplane with no internet, you either have 2 choices, watch all the videos sent in your WhatsApp groups or read a book. Which one will generate more value per time(hour)?

  • In the context of pandemic
The moment you relax innovation, when not put too much regulation behind it and say, we have to survive it as a species & we have to figure out a vaccine; we figured out the vaccine in a year's time, that's the craziest thing that has happened in 2020-21.
The need for human connections will be more again, that's where we become who we are.

  • Lifehack :
Doing thought experiments is the smartest way of becoming sharper in life, by doing simulations in your head.

  • People who actively participate in learning will see exponential growth in their skills and income, people who don't will go down exponentially.
The income divide of the world is going to grow even further. People don't understand that there is not just an income divide, there will be skills divide as well and that's happening and the skills divide is causing the income divide even furthermore.

  • As a country, we should work insanely hard to not have brain drain (losing out smart people). We should insanely make it easy for people to live here, earn more & become more & become wealthy, so that they create jobs.

Kunal Shah on productivity
  •   Ask yourself
    • How do I do this better?
    • How do the best people do this stuff?
If you start mimicking some of these pathways on becoming more efficient in doing these things, you will generate something better next time. We should not just be part of consumers but participate, be creators or try being very close to creators.

  • Hack: Ask yourself am I doing high-value work than what my value per hour is?

  • Just observe people who are successful and make notes
    • how do they do a meeting?
    • how do they get work done?
    • if they have a problem, how do they solve it?
    • if they want to achieve something, how do they go about doing it?
When you observe these things in 3 - 5 successful people, you will see a pattern; copy that pattern; you will move to the next level; then you will meet another level of successful people who are better than you also, then copy them as well. When you start applying them you will become better and better.

  • Ask yourself, "do I really care about progress or just want to chill, in life?"

If you liked reading my notes, do let me know if you want me to put out more of this kind of stuff in the comments. Do consider sharing it with your friends 😊.

Thinking from First Principles - The Physics framework of thinking !! 🔥

First Principles - The Physics framework of thinking!!          "The Earth is flat". This is what people thought, because they could see people, vehicles, all moving in the horizontal direction, until science came and proved it wrong. Like this, in our day to day life, we start assuming things  to be true, that we observe or what people tell us, without thinking whether it is actually true or appearing to be. So how do we know the actual fact? Can we change the way we think? YES... we need to adopt the "First Principles Thinking" method. What is First Principles Thinking?   Why should we use it?         The first time I heard this was from SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk. First principles thinking  is a kind of physics way of looking at the world. It is basically boiling things down to the fundamental truths, that you know are true and reasoning from up there. In mathematics, it is known as an axiom. Normally, what people do i...

Learning the way to learn | How to learn anything ?

Learning the way to learn | How to learn anything?   Many of us say that we know or have knowledge, whenever we are asked about the topic we are familiar with. But does that actually mean you have understood it well enough ? Hmm…           If a friend of yours, comes and asks you to explain about something, you might have told him what you know about the topic but couldn't have explained it clearly or you probably might have confused him even more…  Why does that happen ?  what is it indicating ? Is it indicating the lack of understanding about the topic in us ?   If you want to master something, teach it.                                                                          -Richard Feynman      The Feynman tec...
